Microsoft’s July 2025 security update for Windows 10 (KB5062554) unintentionally disrupts the search functionality within the system’s built‑in emoji picker. After installing the patch on July 14th, users reported that while the emoji panel still appears and emojis can be selected manually, searching by typing “smile” or any keyword yields a persistent “We couldn’t find this one” error. Microsoft has acknowledged the problem via its Windows Release Health dashboard and confirmed the issue in communication with BleepingComputer, stating they are working on a resolution for a future update
The bug has provoked noticeable dissatisfaction, especially since emoji search is a widely used convenience feature. Some users have resorted to uninstalling the update as a temporary fix, and forums like Reddit saw an increase in reports of the same issue. This glitch emerged even as Windows 10 nears its support end on October 14, 2025, prompting some observers to speculate that recurring bugs at this stage may drive more users toward upgrading to Windows 11.
